KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) wants to see bigger participation and representation in politics among Sarawak’s youths.
Speaking to the press after officiating the Satok Street Fest here on Sunday, Satok PBB deputy chairman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said the Beliawanis programme had wooed youths into participating in politics.
“You can see in Kuching itself, almost every single week we have a dialogue session with youths who are interested in politics.
“And those who are not interested, we encourage them to participate in activities that promote socioeconomy and welfare.
“This engagement is part of the efforts to instill leadership skills among youths,” he said.
Through casual dialogues and discussions, Ibrahim believed that this could give some insights into issues relating to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“We really encourage them to partake in the discussion programme, especially related to MA63.
“They need to be well-informed on the history of MA63 so that they can understand our rights,” he said.
“We (PBB Youth Wing) have done a lot to engage with the public.
“Response has been encouraging, especially among school-leavers. In fact, many have come forward to volunteer in our programme.
“This shows that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) strongly supports our youths’ aspirations for social development and well-being.
“Many have been reaching out to us (PBB) via our Facebook page. I think our youths now realised that their participation in politics is important,” Ibrahim added.
