KUCHING: Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) will explore the possibility of joining a coalition after six months, nonetheless discussions are ongoing.
Its party president Datuk Larry Sng, however, did not elaborate further on why the party needs another six months before deciding the next move.
PBM, he said, needs clean and experienced leaders who are sincere in bringing about positive change to the political landscape of the country.
“I believe this is a new beginning. We will not bring in controversial leaders from other parties to join our leadership and will instead cultivate new leaders from within our ranks.
“Those who are unhappy to stay are welcomed to leave,” he said in a Facebook post today (Dec 28), after sacking Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin and 10 others for failure to respond to show cause letters issued to them earlier this month.
Sng, who is also the Julau MP will be travelling throughout the country next month, to meet his party leaders to discuss and explain the party’s future direction as well as to appoint a new state chairman where necessary.
He said there were a few important positions which the party wanted to make clear, including its continuous support to the unity government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and would be aligned to Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Parti Warisan (WARISAN).
“They are our new allies and the government’s position is our party’s direction.
“We are a national-based party, with strong roots in Sarawak and Sabah. So we are focusing on developing East Malaysia and highlighting policy issues for the Peninsula,” he said.
Currently, he said, PBM has one parliamentary seat and three state seats; two in Selangor and one in Sabah, which they will defend and collaborate with its allies in forging an electoral pact.
“Joining a coalition will also be ‘something to be explored’ after six months,” he added.
Sng also stressed that PBM prohibited all its members from joining Muafakat Nasional and those known to have joined shall have their party membership suspended and eventually revoked.
