KUCHING: It is time for the Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) to put an end to the on-going political drama involving its party president Datuk Larry Sng as well as other party leaders and members.
Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) political scientist Datuk Prof Dr Jayum Jawan said Sng and two former PBM Supreme Council members, namely, Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin and Haniza Mohamad Taha were “irrelevant already.”
He said the Malays were now well-represented by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) or Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) at the national level while the Chinese voters in Sarawak were mostly behind Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) or Democratic Action Party (DAP).
As for the Bumiputera and Dayak in Sarawak, he said, they were represented by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) as well as Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
“So, who does Sng represent? Certainly not (representing) the Iban too despite what he claimed to be… The little boy (Sng) doesn’t know what the Iban society really wants and needs despite having won Julau in the 15th general election (GE15),” Jayum told New Sarawak Tribune.
“Yes, he knows how to win but he needs to test his relevancy by contesting in a Chinese-majority area… Then he gains respect (if he can win),” he added.
PBM, Jayum said, was not a serious political party which fought for the interests of the people.
“it is no longer relevant as it does not represent anyone.
Besides, what can a party with one parliamentary seat do? It doesn’t matter if Sng continues to support the unity government or leave, it has no impact on the federal government,” he said.
PBM deputy president Haniza Mohamed Talha recently urged the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to investigate Julau MP Sng’s legitimacy as party president.
The Lembah Jaya assemblywoman said the party’s top leadership had “fully rejected” Sng’s presidency. She claimed that Sng was using the party as a mere stepping stone to obtain influence and position at the national level while disregarding the values upheld by the party.
Meanwhile, Zuraida had also criticised Sng over the way he was managing the party, calling him “immature and arrogant”.
However, Sng said they should not make public statements regarding its party crisis, instead the duo should respond to the show-cause letter sent to them by the party’s disciplinary committee chairman.
He said the membership of those who refused to comply or respond to the show-cause letter could be terminated.
Sng said Zuraida should reflect on herself because she had already been rejected by voters in the GE15 and “no one is interested in her opinions anymore.”
During GE15, PBM contested the Ampang, Hulu Selangor, Kapar and Labuan parliamentary seats but lost. Only Sng managed to secure victory in Julau.
