KUCHING: Local authorities (PBT) must play their role in tandem with the respective assemblyman’s plans to ensure facilities for the people are well-implemented.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said this applies to several key areas under the jurisdiction of the district councils.
He explained that this involves drainage systems, concrete alleyways, street lighting and waste management.
“That’s why it’s important for us to move together. The councillors of the Saratok District Council (MDS), along with the representatives of the people, need to continuously enhance close cooperation.
“The relationship that has been established, much like a riverbank to a river, will ensure that every infrastructure development plan is prioritised for the betterment of the people’s quality of life,” he said.
He stated this after a meeting with councillors Kasdi Pandi, Majid Amit, Aton Tar and Saee Ason here, yesterday.
He said the meeting focused on the improvement of drainage systems, concrete alleyways, street lighting, and waste management in every village, longhouse and residential area.
“We will review the applications put forth by community and village chiefs (KMKK) especially concerning non-functional drainage systems. God willing, with the allocation available, we will progressively make improvements.
“Similarly, for villages that lack of street lighting and have inadequate waste disposal facilities, I request that MDS take this matter seriously.
“As for the alleyways, I believe many have been built.
“Nevertheless, if there are still requests from residents, they will always be evaluated for consideration in stages, because if better organised, it will provide greater well-being and a positive impact on environmental sustainability,” he stated.
Mohamad also urged district council members to enhance smart partnerships with non-governmental organisations to stage community programmes.
