KUCHING: The appointment of Pele Peter Tinggom as a senator in Dewan Negara is a testament to the tireless efforts and commitment of Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) leaders to serve in public office, said Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
In expressing his gratitude, the PDP president said that it gave the party further impetus to strive for improvements and reforms to better the lives of all fellow Malaysians.
“We would like to express our gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, for giving consent to the appointment.
“Much appreciated to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for allowing our party to have this opportunity for our leaders to be appointed to the Senate in order to better serve the rakyat and carry out their duties to the nation,” he said on his Facebook post recently.
Tiong, who is also the Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, stressed that the appointment would not have been possible without the support of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and the leaders of Sarawak.
“I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for their unwavering support and guidance throughout this journey,” he said.
The Bintulu MP also extended his congratulations to Senators Datuk Bobbey Ah Fang Suan and Anna Bell@Suzieana Perian on their appointment.
“Once again, my congratulations to the newly sworn-in senators. I am confident that they will shoulder this office with the care and commitment it deserves,” he said.
Pele was sworn in before the Senate president Datuk Mutang Tagal in Kuala Lumpur on March 5, replacing Datuk Paul Igai, who has decided to retire.
In his remarks, Pele expressed gratitude to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim for his appointment as a senator, and thanked Anwar and Abang Johari for their trust and recommending him for the appointment.
He also thanked Tiong for his recommendation to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leadership.
Pele was reported to have said that as a PDP member, he would help the party move forward under the leadership of Tiong and personally, he said that PDP was close to his heart because of his father’s close association with the party.
“My late father, Datuk Seri Peter Tinggom, was a leader of the party, starting with his membership in Sarawak National Party (SNAP, now-defunct) and then the setting-up of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) before its rebranding to PDP,” he said.
