KUCHING: Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah supports the cooperation between the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) with the possibility of a merger in the future.

The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president sees the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between both parties in Kuala Lumpur yesterday (July 13) as a positive move towards uniting Sarawakians.

“Anything that could unite the Sarawakians is good. So far, PSB has not been running us down, they have been very balanced in their assessment of the state government’s actions.

“And when things are not very good, they have been ticking us off,” he told reporters during the charity fund raising film premiere of ‘Kumang – Aku Ukai 17 Agi’ at Golden Screen Cinemas, The Spring here yesterday.

Abdul Karim said that since some of the PSB members held ministerial positions in the state government before, he did not foresee any problem with the PDP-PSB collaboration.

“What is important for me is that anything that could unify Sarawak is good for Sarawak.

“After all, those in the PSB are those who had been with us, had been full ministers, had been with us in programmes with the people and so on,” he added.

Nevertheless, he was quick to add that his personal stance did not represent Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) or PBB.

“It is up to the Supreme Council of GPS and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to come up with an official statement on the collaboration,” he said.

Yesterday, PDP and PSB signed an MoU to collaborate following a year-long discussion.

PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing underscored the common goal of working together for the benefit of Sarawak and strengthening the state government.

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, the PSB president, said the decision to support PDP stemmed from the intention to enable the federal and state governments to effectively carry out their people-oriented initiatives.
