KUCHING: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) is ready should a snap election be called in the state.
Women chief Datuk Chiew Yen Chew said PDP should capitalise on the situation involving Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
“Long before the movement control order (MCO), the women’s wing had set up Wanita election committees in southern and northern regions.
“We are very much a native-based party and rural diversity which makes our campaign strategy very different from urban,” she told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
“Our machinery focuses on community and grassroots programmes among the rural population. We have to get in touch with the voters, addressing any problems they have.”
However during the MCO, programmes in rural areas had to be put on hold and members could only distribute food aid to those affected, she added.
“We are now planning to go again, that is from door-to-door, conducting meet-the-people sessions with our leaders soon.”
Chiew said as part of the campaign strategy, the Women’s wing planned to carry out awareness programmes for voters, especially women.
“We stand firm behind our party leadership and Gabungan Parti Sarawak. We are also adamant on contesting the eight state seats allocated to our party, under the agreement on seat allocation among the component parties.
“The eight seats are Marudi, Ba’Kelalan, Batu Danau, Tasik Biru, Bekenu, Pakan, Julau and Krian.
“In any case, we hope for a better arrangement and look forward to other allocations in the coming state polls,” she said.
