BAU: The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) in Tasik Biru is seeking to increase its membership in Tasik Biru in pursuance of having a stronger foothold and appeal to younger voters.
PDP Tasik Biru chairman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said currently, the number of party members has decreased to 3,224 due to some members passing away and others leaving for various reasons.
He emphasised that the numbers are important for the party to have a strong base and urged PDP branches to work harder to attract new members.
“So within the coming years, we are targeting to get about 5,000 party members from the state constituency,” said the Tasik Biru assemblyman.
He said this when met by reporters after chairing the PDP Tasik Biru Triennial General Meeting at the Bau Civic Centre here last night (Apr 20).
“For now, we will try to get 1,000 members, which we see as achievable but is also a challenge for us.
“It will not be easy to get there, but I am confident we will gradually work towards that number in time to achieve it,” said Henry.
He noted that the increase in membership is necessary preparation for the state election in the next three years.
He highlighted that voters, especially younger ones, have different political mindsets and are dynamic, requiring different approaches to appeal to them and continue to support the party.
“PDP is with GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak), we are the missionary representing the coalition party in Tasik Biru and we need to work together with other component parties. Hopefully we can become stronger and more united,” he added.
During the meeting, Henry was re-elected as the chairman of the party while Paul Nohan retained his position as deputy chairman.
