KUCHING: GPS will be a strong rallying point of unity for all four of its component parties.
As such the decision to form GPS was a bold and visionary move by leaders of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), said PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
He noted that mutual respect, team spirit and strong support among component parties, which formed the basic foundation of GPS, would ensure the coalition remained strong, united and
sustainable.
“PDP is proud to be a component of GPS,” he said in his message in the souvenir programme book for GPS’ launch at the state Indoor Stadium in Petra Jaya tomorrow night.
Tiong is optimistic that GPS would be able to capture the hearts of the majority of Sarawakians with its objective of protecting the rights of the state and its people.
“Based on its joint objectives, that is to protect the rights and special privileges of the state and its people in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963, uphold the State’s and Federal Constitution, and maintain Sarawak as a united and harmonious state, GPS would certainly be a rallying point for unity for all Sarawakians,” he added.
Tiong said PDP as a multiracial party formed by Sarawak’s multiracial community with differing culture and tradition and political aspirations would hold to the noble objectives of GPS.
