DEBAK:  Sarawak is able to carry out various projects for the well-being of the people, thanks to peace and racial harmony in the state, said State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.

“We in this state are quite lucky; despite having 27 tribes, we are still able to live in peace. This is our  strength.

“Therefore, as we see today, the Sarawak government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is working hard to plan well and implement many large projects costing billions of dollars.

“It turns out that all these development projects are not for political parties but for the benefit of the people,” he said.

Asfia was speaking at the opening of the Saribas Surau and Mosque Administration Leadership Workshop at Darul Solihin Mosque here yesterday.

He added that the Sarawak government was trying its best to claim back the state’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“We are talking about oil and gas. Sarawak wants to have full autonomy over them.

“This is why the Sarawak government needs constant support to ensure that this is achieved,” he said.

Asfia added outsiders would not be able to develop Sarawak.

“So during the election season, never risk your luck even for the sake of trying to change the ruling party,” he said.

Asfia also presented Sarawak government donations worth RM161,000 to 14 mosques and 21 surau in Saribas and four cows for sacrifice in conjunction with the upcoming Aidiladha celebration.

Also present were chief political secretary to the chief minister, Abu Seman Jahwie and Saribas assemblyman Mohammad Razi Sitam.
