KUCHING: Mothers Day falls on the second Sunday of May every year and this occasion is a way for children to remember, recognise and appreciate their mother’s sacrifices and hard work in raising the family.
Rightly so as mothers should be cherished and what better occasion than Mothers Day to give them a meaningful present.
If not for anything let it be for the pearls of wisdom mothers impart to children which more often than not also stays with them right into their adult life.
“My mother said something very meaningful to me when I was a child, even until now I still stand by her words,” said 19-year-old housewife, Petresa Hanskn.
“She told me to never hate anyone or despise anyone and to never bad mouth anyone even if they bad mouth us. And to always be kind to one another.”
Petresa shared that her grandmother also gave her kind words of advice that she and her mother shared.
Meanwhile, Angela Shiffer, also recalled similar advice her mother gave her when she was a child, starting with not to waste valuable time with some people in life.
“She said I must straighten my heart, deafen my ears and polish the way I communicate with people in order to not offend anyone”, said the 26-year-old.
Kindness is the central theme for the majority of children who have received invaluable advice from their mothers in a world that can sometimes be harsh and unforgiving.
It is the gentle act of kindness that can make the most significant difference, bringing light and warmth to those around us and foster a sense of community and understanding.
Echoing this sentiment, Newell Ambas said his mother always reminds him to be kind to others.
The 21-year-old student said he always tries his best to follow his mother’s reminders as it is a way for him to honour her.
“Always be kind and never get angry at others because anger can eventually cause harm to other people.
“Always be gentle, be kind, soft spoken with other people, especially with the older generations”,he said.
Newell said this advice is much cherished in his life.
