BINTULU: An elderly woman was killed when she was hit by a car while crossing the road at the Paragon Road traffic light area on Tuesday (Aug 4).
State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the incident occurred around 6am when the driver was travelling from Jalan Paragon to Kampung Baru.
“At the traffic lights, the driver knocked a pedestrian who was crossing the road from the left side.
“The victim, identified as Sindol Pasai, 74, sustained severe injuries to her head and leg at the scene,” Alexson said in a statement.
He added that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene while the 29-year-old driver was unharmed.
The victim’s body was sent to Bintulu Hospital for further actions.
Alexson said investigations would be conducted under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
