KUCHING: Association of Importers and Traders of Motor Vehicles Malaysia Sarawak (Pekema) contributed food and drinks to four fire stations in the city, yesterday.
These stations are in Petra Jaya, Tabuan Jaya, Padungan and Batu Lintang.
A committee member of Pekema, Yusuf Roy Fitri Datuk Mohd Johnny (on behalf of the president Tan Sri Abang Khalid Abang Marzuki), said the initiative was part of Yayasan Pekema’s corporate social responsibility programme to ease the hardship of frontliners in enforcing the movement control order (MCO).
“The association carried out the initiative in appreciation of the sacrifices of those who ensure the safety and health of the public,” he said yesterday after handing over food and drinks to Petra Jaya fire station.
The day before, the association’s representatives distributed food and drinks to policemen, soldiers, and Rela members who manned a few roadblocks around the city.
Siti Aisyah Ramli, corporate relations executive of Pekema Sarawak, said 60 packets of food and drinks were distributed at the roadblocks.
Pekema Sarawak is currently helping needy people who are not able to purchase basic food due to the partial lockdown order, including those who have health problems and unable to go out to purchase necessities.
“We have been informed about the areas and the number of people who are in need of help. We will try our best to help them,” she said.
On a related issue, Yusuf said the automotive industry has been greatly affected in terms of sales and stocks.
“It has impacted the expenses of companies, but for the benefit of everyone, we must obey the MCO so that the Covid-19 pandemic could be defeated,” he said.
