KUALA LUMPUR: The police have arrested a member of the Islamic Propagation and Welfare Organisation of Malaysia (Pekida) for an alleged death threat against Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

According to a statement from Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun yesterday, the 38-year-old man, who had allegedly threatened to shoot Dr Mahathir, was arrested in Jalan Beverly Heights, Ampang, at 4.40am last Saturday and is being held on remand up to June 6 to assist in the investigation.

He said in a statement that the man was arrested following a complaint by the Pekida Selangor Secretary on May 31 about an article in the social media pertaining to the death threat. “However, the suspect claimed that his Facebook account had been breached by some irresponsible people,” added Mohamad Fuzi.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network service, etc. – Bernama
