KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak narrowly missed out on a gold medal in the men’s rapid team chess event at the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA XXI), finishing in fourth place behind Penang, Selangor, and Kelantan.

The Sarawak team, comprising Lim See Siang Fergus and Mohd Ameenudeen Mohd Fadhlullah, put up a strong fight but ultimately fell short.

Penang also dominated the women’s rapid team category, with Melaka and Selangor claiming silver and bronze, respectively.

Sarawak’s women’s players, Ung Hui Pin and Ngu Yi Di, finished ninth in the competition.

Despite these setbacks, Sarawak remains in contention for the standard individual team event, which concludes tomorrow (Aug 24). The blitz event will also commence on the same day.
