KUCHING: The Sarawak women’s hockey team suffered their second consecutive defeat after losing 0-5 to Penang on the second day of the Sukan Malaysia 2024 (SUKMA) Hockey event held at the Petra Jaya Hockey Stadium here, yesterday (August 17).

The match which started at 7:30 am, saw Penang scored the opening point as early as the third minute, leaving Sarawak team headed by coach Linda Liwek Laing unable to secure a victory by the end of the match.

The first quarter saw the home team was overwhelmed by Penang women’s squad, who scored 3-0 and successfully disrupted the defensive line of the home team.

On the other hand, the young Sarawak squad clearly failed to find their rhythm throughout the match and were unable to capitalise on the opportunities available to score.

Penang then added to the home team’s misery by scoring two more goals in the second quarter.

The home team tried to recover, but the result remained until the final whistle.
