KUCHING: Pacific West Dragon Boat Club from Penang took home the champion’s prize of RM5,000 with a time of 1hr 10mins 7secs at the Sarawak International Dragon Boat Race 2022 over the weekend.
Boneka Paddlers from Brunei, clocking a time of 1hr 10mins 16secs, finished second while third and fourth were Indonesia’s Kapuas Hulu and Sarawak’s Landas respectively.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah gave away the prizes to the winners during the appreciation dinner at Pullman Hotel here on Sunday (Oct 30)
Meanwhile, he said of the race that “it is definitely a record for us because we have never organised a dragon boat race this big.”
He praised Malaysian Dragon Boat Federation president Girlie Tan and her technical team for successfully organising the race.
The Sarawak International Dragon Boat Race 2022 saw the participation of some 17 countries, including Thailand, the Philippines, UAE, Brunei, Iran, Egypt, Spain, United Kingdom, Bangladesh, the USA and Georgia.
The two-day race attracted over 1,500 paddlers in 48 teams competing in six categories.
