MIRI: The state government is continuously striving to bring development to both rural and urban areas.
Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau (pic) said the government’s mission and vision had always been to develop the state holistically.
“The state government under the leadership of our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has been pursuing its agenda to develop rural Sarawak.
“Slowly but surely this development in human capital, economy and basic infrastructure continue to take place,” he assured at a programme for Penan community in Long Latei near here on Friday.
Nearly 500 Penans from nearby villages attended the event.
Dennis cited the establishment of Highland Development Agency (HDA) as an example of the government’s commitment in developing rural areas in Sarawak.
“A total RM1.5 billion has been allocated to develop infrastructures such as roads and amenities in the constituencies of Telang Usan and Mulu this year.
“Some of us may wonder how these billions of ringgit worth of projects could now take place in Telang Usan… things we only heard about but never really see implemented before.
“This is where we Sarawakians can count on our blessing for God has blessed our state with a brilliant leader like Abang Johari who is committed to develop all strata of the society,” he said.
Dennis urged people in Telang Usan to give their undivided support to the chief minister and the GPS state government.
He brushed aside claims made by irresponsible outsiders that the Penan community was being sidelined.
“They (outsiders) must come here and see for themselves the development that we have done for the community, rather than making baseless claims.”
