PENDING assemblywoman Violet Yong has been chided for not following the Standing Orders of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki in referring to Standing Order 32(4) of the DUN, said Yong should not call another colleague “incompetent” as she did to the Honourable Member for Batu Kawah.

“Because, it would appear that she is imputing underlying and improper motives.

“Standing Order 32(4) states clearly that it shall be out of order to use offensive and insulting language above on members of the Dewan,” he said.

He said the election and the campaign period is over, there is no need to call people names.

“Therefore, Mr Speaker, I humbly suggest and seek your kind indulgence that her statement yesterday on the matter above be expunged from the Hansard,” he said.

He also said he does not want to see the august House become a coffee shop or ‘pasar malam’ (market).

“Pending should be aware as an experienced member, she should know about the conduct according to the Standing Order,” said Ibrahim.

Deputy DUN Speaker Datuk Idris Buang who presided over the afternoon session of the DUN sitting, said he agreed with Ibrahim.

“I would like to make a bit of clarification, to erase any degree of doubt that may arise in regard to my ruling earlier on the expungement of that negative part of Pending speech yesterday as requested by Satok assemblyman, I have made the decision, based on the residuary power of the speaker under Standing Order 89 and read together with standing order 86,” he said.

Last Wednesday, when making a statement in her debate speech, Yong had asked Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to replace the Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian for failure to establish the Strata Management Tribunal.
