SAMARAHAN: The completion of the Malaysian Armed Force (ATM) health polyclinic in Penrissen Camp will benefit around 12,000 ATM personnel, their families and veterans in Kuching.

Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said this is the ministry’s initiative to depend less on the government hospitals in Kuching and also ATM’s health facilities.

“The newly built ATM health polyclinic in Penrissen Camp has various facilities that can cater for the personnel and their families, as well as our veterans.

“Facilities such as military clinic, family clinic, emergency unit, surgery hall, In-patient ward, hemodialysis, rehabilitation unit, public health and dentist services.

“Medical support facilities like medical laboratory, pharmacy and X-ray imaging are also at the policlinic,” said the minister during a press conference after officiating at the polyclinic at Penrissen Camp yesterday.

The RM28.4 million polyclinic project was implemented by the Public Works Department Sarawak on Nov 21, 2017, where Hishammuddin officiated the ground-breaking ceremony in the camp.

“The welfare of our armed force personnel as well as the veterans is something that we prioritise and not something to be politicised on.

“This is the first polyclinic built and it has given morale and the feeling of relief to our armed force personnel, doctors and also to the patients receiving treatment here,” added the minister.

He expressed hope that his ministry would keep up the momentum to provide the best care for ATM personnel across the nation.

Hishammuddin also called on the private sector, especially in Sarawak, to help the ministry to conduct welfare programmes through corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme in the aspect of health, housing and others.
