KOTA SAMARAHAN: The public has been advised to become the eyes and ears for the authorities, especially the police to combat crime.
Sarawak Contingent Police Deputy Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata called for the cooperation of the people to play their part in reducing the crime rate.
Cooperation from the people is very important to the police and can be a measure of success in reducing Sarawak’s crime rate, he said.
“We will be more successful in reducing the crime rate when the community becomes the eyes and ears for us.
“I hope the people can continue to give support to the police force in crime prevention tasks,” Mancha said during the opening ceremony of the PDRM Crime Prevention Programme Collaboration with the private sector at Farley Supermarket, here today.
He said the community should watch each other’s back to ensure safety of their properties.
“The effort is important because criminal cases such as housebreaking and theft, including vehicle theft, can be prevented.
“With good cooperation and a selfless attitude, I believe we will be more successful in reducing the crime rate in Kota Samarahan in particular and Sarawak in general,” he added.
On the collaboration programme, jointly organised by the Sarawak Police Contingent and Farley Supermarket, Mancha said it will focus on crime prevention awareness.
He said the programme is also aimed at educating the community on the importance of crime awareness and their responsibility towards curbing crime.
“Thank you so much to the management of Farley Supermarket for offering to collaborate with PDRM and for putting in the effort to make this programme a success,” he said.
Present were Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos, head of Department of Crime Prevention and Community Security Sarawak Police Contingent SAC Lukas Aket, head of Sarawak Police Contingent Criminal Investigation Department SAC Wong Ing Fung, Kota Samarahan district police chief DSP Brodie Brangka, Farley (Kota Samarahan) Sdn Bhd manager Eiyen Lau and representative of Samarahan Resident Hassanal Abdul Wahid.
