KUCHING: Work to convert the old Legislative State Assembly (DUN) building to a performing arts centre is now expected to finish sometime between 2025 and 2026.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the delay was not only due to the pandemic but more allocation has been given for the renovation of the building.
“At first the allocation was RM200 million, now there will be more budget given for the renovation of the building,” he said here on Tuesday.
He added that the construction of another performing arts centre in the state is also in the works.
“We are hoping that this new performing arts centre, using high quality technology will attract artists, performers from around the world to come to Sarawak to perform and showcase their arts,” he said.
Snowdan also stated there is an allocation given through the ministry for organising live concerts.
“The allocation is for us to organise not only live concerts, but also other events to make Sarawak even more happening, thus attracting more tourists to come here and experience Sarawak as well,” he added.
