SIBU: A handbook has been launched on the strategic directions of the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (Perkim) Sarawak.
Also launched together with the Perkim Sarawak 2022-2027 Direction Book here on Saturday (April 29) was the Perkim Sarawak 1989-2022 Book.
The launching was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee who represented Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Abang Johari congratulated Perkim for having successfully prepared a Strategic Perkim Sarawak Direction 2022-2027 handbook.
He said it serves as a guideline for Perkim’s programmes and activities implemented in the coming years at the divisional level and all its branches throughout Sarawak.
“I believe this strategic plan will take into account and deal with the above issues in the implementation of Perkim’s programmes and activities in the future,” he said in his speech read by Dr Annuar during the launching here.
Abang Johari also said the Perkim Sarawak 1989-2022 book is a publication that recorded the history of the Perkim establishment in Sarawak, the programmes and activities they implemented, milestones and its strategic plan for the future.
“To guarantee the sustainability of the implementation of Perkim’s programme and activities, solid and close cooperation with related agencies and NGOs is also essential.
“The spirit of volunteerism and close cooperation at the division, branch and national levels are also important to continue the struggle and fulfil the responsibilities entrusted to Perkim Sarawak,” he said.
Abang Johari congratulated Perkim Sarawak for its almost 35 years of existence in Sarawak since its establishment in 1989 under the leadership of the first chairman and founder of Perkim the late Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Laila Taib (1989-2009).
He said its existence until today is due to the tenacity and efficiency of leaders who succeeded in forming efficient leadership at the division, branch and grassroots levels.
“The uniqueness of Perkim in Sarawak is that it consists of only women compared to Peninsular Malaysia. It is also the only female Islamic NGO in Sarawak.
“Perkily has expanded widely with the establishment of its 21 branches throughout the state. The total number of members has also increased to over 5,000 and that is the most in Malaysia.
“Congratulations and well done to Perkim under the leadership of Datuk Hanifah Taib-Alsree and Sarawak Perkim committee members for making it prosper,” he said.
