Perkim Sarawak to organise charity run for Laila Stroke Care Centre

KUCHING: Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Malaysia (Perkim) Sarawak will be organising a charity run at the Sarawak State Library compound on Sept 15.

Deputy Minister of Economy and Perkim Sarawak chairperson Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib said the objective of the run is to raise funds to support the operational costs and provide improvements for the Laila Stroke Care Centre here.

“The run is open to all and we are targeting about 2,000 participants to join the Perkim Sarawak Charity Half Marathon 2024,” she said in a press conference at a hotel here on Sunday (July 7).

Hanifah further said the run will feature a 21km half marathon, 10km run, as well as the fun run category with 5km and 3km distances.

“The first-place winners in the Men’s and Women’s 21km categories will take home a cash prize of RM2,000 each, while the winners of the Men’s and Women’s 10km categories will each receive a cash prize of RM1,000,” she said.

She added that these prizes, participants will have the chance to win a variety of other attractive rewards and lucky draw prizes.

Registration can be done online at ticket2u.com.my by typing ‘Perkim’ in the search engine or manually by contacting the Perkim Sarawak Office.

The registration deadline is on Aug 15.

Among those present during the press conference was organising chairperson Datin Azerina Mod Arip.

Meanwhile, in early 2023, Perkim Sarawak took full control of the management of the stroke care centre previously managed by Normah Medical Specialist Centre.

The facility, known as the Laila Stroke Care Centre, is located on Jalan Kereta Api, offers affordable follow-up physiotherapy treatments for stroke patients, ensuring that those with limited financial resources can receive necessary rehabilitation in a comfortable environment.

Since assuming management, Perkim Sarawak has initiated several improvements to enhance the centre’s physical condition and the quality of its services.
