LAWAS: The Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Malaysia (PERKIM) aims to establish a strong entity dedicated to addressing the welfare issues of the local community more effectively, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
The Minister of International Trade, Industry, and Investment said that the goal should be pursued seriously through professional management and solid support from all members, including the involvement of government and private agencies here itself.
“I sincerely hope that PERKIM’s efforts will serve as an example to other welfare organisations, and I believe that collaboration among all parties to standardise aid distribution will ensure even more efficient assistance delivery.
“Therefore, I call upon welfare organisations in Lawas to convene and brainstorm activities or programmes that are suitable for joint implementation for the benefit of all,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the Hari Raya Donation Presentation to the less fortunate here which was jointly organised by PERKIM and N82 Bukit Sari Service Centre at a hotel here today.
Awang Tengah added that the programme should also involve the participation of young people or youth to engage them directly in community development activities.
“In this way, we cannot only fill the time of our youth with beneficial activities but also ensure their continued contributions to the community,” he said.
Awang Tengah also called on more individuals, organisations, associations, and corporations to come forward to extend assistance and charity to those in need in the Lawas district.
“Surely, we will receive multiplied rewards by successfully practicing charity during this blessed month of Ramadan.
“I also hope that the practice of giving and charity will not be limited to Ramadan alone. The act of giving or engaging in perpetual charity should also be carried out in other months as a collective effort to strengthen the economy and aid needy Muslims,” he said.
