KUCHING: The Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail yesterday paid a visit to the Datuk Amar Hajah Juma’ani Welfare Centre at Jalan Kulas here.
The centre was a pit stop in Tuanku Syed Faizuddin’s ‘Kayuhan Di Raja’. Satok was selected as one of the places he is visiting in his journey; it is a kampung within the city (Old Kuching Heritage concept) where various historical buildings can be found.
A dance performance by the centre’s children and a few staff members welcomed the Raja Muda. Besides signing the centre’s visitor log book and an official plaque at its mini agro farm, he also toured the centre.
A briefing on the Datuk Amar Hajah Juma’ani Welfare Centre and its activities was presented by Petra Jaya Welfare Association (PKPJ) deputy chairwoman and Sri Satok Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) chairwoman Datuk Dr Munirah Hassan.
“Here, we have two community care centres. First, we have the PDK Sri Satok for children with physical or non-physical disabilities. We also have the Old Folks Activity Centre (Pawe) which was just established two months ago,” she said in her speech.
According to her, PDK Sri Satok was established in 2015 by PKPJ, beginning with just 14 candidates with various conditions.
“As we progressed, our numbers increased and now we have 71 candidates and 10 staff members. So, we needed a bigger place,” explained Dr Munirah.
Therefore, the new two-storey facility which costs about RM1 million was developed and declared officially open on March 2 this year, replacing the previous PDK Sri Satok at Jalan Muda Hashim.
“Among our facilities here are three classrooms, a dining area, a sensory room, a hydrotherapy pool, and more,” stated Dr Munirah.
She elaborated that PDK Sri Satok’s concept was based on needs and involved training in collaboration with family members and the community.
Also present were the chief minister’s wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang after whom the centre is named, Dewan Bahasa Dan Pustaka (DBP) director-general Datuk Abang Sallehuddin Abang Shokeran, Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman and Tuanku Syed Faizuddin’s entourage.
