SIBU: The Covid-19 Delta variant that was detected in the Permai residential area here recently has contributed to the high number of cases recorded in the district for three consecutive days.

Last Friday, Sibu district recorded a total of 125 positive cases, where 73 were detected from the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) area and 38 in the Rural District Council (MDLBS) area.

Of the 73 cases recorded in the SMC area, a total of 21 cases were detected in the Permai housing area (Permai Zone).

A total of 21 cases detected in the zone were at Batu 6 at Jalan Oya with one case, Jalan Permai Jaya (1), Jalan Ulu Oya (4), Lorong Permai Jaya 15 (2), Lorong Permai Jaya 1C2 (1), Lorong Permai Jaya 9 (2), Lorong Permai Timur 7 (5), Lorong Permai Timur 9C1 (2), Lorong Permai Utara 1 (2) and Lorong Permai Utara 2F (1).

Following this, SMC chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh reminded residents living in the Permai and surrounding housing areas to be careful.

He urged residents in the area to take precautionary measures as 21 new positive Covid-19 cases were detected there on Friday.

“I hope all Permai residents are aware and know that there are 21 cases in their area and most of these viruses have spread in Permai Jaya.

“For those of you who use Taman Tasik Permai, it is hoped all of you will always be careful,” he said.

Touching on the new cases detected last Friday, he noted that nine of the 18 places visited by Covid-19 patients are food premises such as coffee shops or restaurants.

In this regard, Ting asked communities in the district to take precautions when dining at coffee shops and other food premises.

“The safe way is to do not go to your favourite coffee shop when you find it crowded. Go to a place that has fewer customers.

“For those who have children at home under the age of 18 and are not vaccinated, I highly recommend that you don’t bring them out.

“The Delta variant doesn’t have severe symptoms for those who are vaccinated, but for children who are not vaccinate, it can cause them to experience worsesymptoms.

“Do we want to neglect the health of our children just to go out to eat in shops or restaurants?” he asked.
