KUCHING: Perodua has aimed for its new seven-seater SUV, the Perodua Aruz to top the SUV sales charts in Sarawak/Sabah, a predominantly SUV-driven market.

“Perodua is targeting to expand further its Sarawak/Sabah market share from 40 percent currently, and Perodua Aruz would spearhead that expansion in this SUV popular region,” said its president and chief executive officer Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

He revealed this when speaking at the flagging-off ceremony of the Perodua Aruz Trans Borneo Convoy from here to Tawau, covering 1,500km until March 22 at Perodua’s Kuching 1 Branch here today.

Zainal said along the way, the convoy comprising six units of Perodua Aruz, would be calling at major towns and cities including Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, Kota Kinabalu, Ranau and Sandakan to engage with the local communities and councils, allowing them to get up close to and experience Perodua Aruz.

“I’m pleased to announce that since its launch in January this year, over 4,000 units have found homes out of over 14,000 bookings received nationwide to date,” he added.

Zainal said the favourable reception received so far, both humbled and encouraged Perodua to work harder to improve delivery times and serve the people better.

He said Perodua’s 220mm ground clearance gave the car great all-round visibility and the ability to traverse semi-rough terrain and small floods with ease.

Its body-on-frame on construction also made the SUV durable and capable of handling loads, he added.

Zainal said the seven-seater could be adjusted in many ways to suit owners’ lifestyles, and thanked to the six airbags and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) being standard across the range, plus Advanced Safety Assist 2.0 on the AV variant, the Perodua Aruz had a maximum of five-star Asean NCAP safety rating.

The Perodua Aruz, which is also government certified energy-efficient vehicle (EEV) with the best fuel economy in its class, is priced at RM74,900 for the X variant and RM79,000 for the AV variant.
