MIRI: The state government is fully cognisant of the need to relocate the Orphans Welfare Organisation Malaysia (Peryatim) Sarawak, Miri branch in Permyjaya as a permanent solution to its sinking land problem.

This was said by Assistant Minister for Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Rosey Yunus.

“We are fully aware of the problem,” she said.

Because of that, the government had a relocation plan and also a temporary development plan on the current site, she explained

“It may take us some time to identify a suitable land for the relocation but I’ll do my very best to assist,” she said.

Rosey added that a proposal plan on the relocation had been put forward to patron of Peryatim Sarawak Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

Rosey disclosed this today during her visit to Peryatim Miri in Permyjaya.

She added Peryatim was open to children of all races and not only for Muslim children.

“Parents from other races often ask me whether they can send their children to Peryatim.  I say, “Of course, you can. Peryatim is open to all races,” she explained.

Established in 2008, Peryatim Miri has the capacity to accommodate up to 150 children.

But due to the problem of sinking land, it was forced to limit the number of children for safety reasons.

Currently, there are 64 children living at the complex.

During her visit Rosey presented a cheque for RM10,000, 500 pieces of face masks and 100 bottles of hand sanitizers.

Also present was Peryatim Miri exco chairman Julaihi Mohamad.
