KAPIT: Kapit District Council (KDC) in collaboration with various government agencies in Song district has fixed the second Song Dabai Festival (Pesta Dabai Song) tentatively from next March 6 to 8.

The first festival in the town was held from December 14 to 16 in 2018.

When chairing the festival’s first committee meeting at Song last Wednesday afternoon, KDC Deputy Walikota Watson Awan said they were selecting committee members for the various tasks required to organise the event.

He said the council decided to hold the festival in Song because the district was well-known for the best quality ‘dabai’ in the state.

“Hopefully the festival could help to enliven Song town by getting the locals and visitors together,” he said.

In his briefing on the proposed programmes for festival, KDC assistant secretary, Kelimbik Sibat, said the event was slotted into the Tourism Calendar Of Events this year tentatively from February 7 to 9 because the council has many activities going on, the event has been pushed to March 6-8.

The next day is reserved for the Best Dabai Competition, Dabai Cooking Competition, Guess Number of Dabai Fruits Competition, Katibas Bridge Fun Run, performances by Iban singers, Children’s Colouring Contest, Song Strong Men Contest, and community sports.

A food fair will also be held a week earlier from March 2-8 so that locals can do a bit of business. This will be handled by KDC’s Sports and Recreation Club (Kadico).
