KUCHING: The 16th edition of the Sri Santubong Open Petanque Doubles Championship and the LANDAS PSPBK Cup 2024 attracts players from Indonesia, Thailand as well as participants from across Malaysia.
Organised by the Kuching Division Petanque Sports Association (PSPBK), in partnership with the Sarawak Land and Survey Department Social Club (LANDAS) and Lea Sports Centre, the event will take place on 23-24 November 2024 this weekend at the Sarawak Petanque Centre in Kampung Santubong.
Speaking at a press conference held at Sarawak Plaza on Monday, PSPBK treasurer Alfian Bawi announced that the competition will feature two main categories: the Open Doubles and the Women’s Doubles.
“The registration fee is RM100 per team for the Open Doubles category and RM80 per team for the Women’s Doubles category
“A total cash prize pool of RM22,800 will be awarded to the top performers,” Alfian said.
As of the latest tally, organisers have confirmed 243 team entries, comprising 168 teams for the Open Doubles and 75 teams for the Women’s Doubles.
Alfian also noted that the tournament is open to both local and international players, with participants from across Malaysia, as well as from neighbouring countries, expected to compete.
“We are pleased to announce that the competition has attracted teams from Indonesia, Thailand, and various Malaysian states including Sabah, Pahang, Terengganu, Selangor, Kelantan, Labuan, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis, as well as Kuching’s surrounding districts such as Samarahan, Bintulu, Serian, Sibu, Mukah, Miri, Limbang, and Lawas,” he added.
To encourage widespread participation and enhance the experience for spectators, the organisers will host a lucky draw offering prizes worth RM3,000 in total.
Alfian expressed his gratitude to Lea Sports Centre for their continued support as the event’s main sponsor.
