BINTULU: A petrol station here is under investigation for selling subsidised RON95 petrol to a foreign-registered vehicle recently.

Photos had earlier gone viral on social media, showing a man filling up the subsidised petrol in his vehicle bearing a foreign plate number.

Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Bintulu chief Al Redzamani Abdul Razak in a statement, said it (viral photos) had attracted the attention of various parties.

The petrol station operator in this instance would have violated Regulation 12A of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974.

“If convicted, individuals can be fined up to RM1 million or up to RM3 million for subsequent offences, or a jail term of up to three years or both.

“As for companies, if found guilty of selling RON95 petrol and diesel, they can be fined up to RM2 million and up to RM5 million for subsequent offences,” he said.

Al Redzamani said the probe was also in response to allegations that KPDN Bintulu failed to take action against petrol station operators who sell RON95 petrol and diesel to foreign vehicles.

He said his office’s enforcement division had been instructed to conduct immediate investigations and aggressive monitoring at all petrol stations to prevent the leakage of subsidised petrol to foreign vehicles.

In addition to monitoring through CCTVs, the public is urged to cooperate by lodging a report to the relevant ministry.

“To ensure that there is no leakage in the sale of RON95 petrol and diesel, the ministry is intensifying enforcement to make sure that all owners of vehicles using foreign plate numbers, including motorcycles, are not allowed to fill up with the subsidised fuel.

“They are only allowed to fill up with RON97 fuel at all gas stations nationwide,” he said.

Al Redzaman said his office has, from time to time, issued instructions to all oil companies and petrol station operators to ensure compliance with the ban on the sale of RON95 petrol to foreign vehicles.
