KUCHING: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) has been declared free of any wrongdoing by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) after a thorough investigation.
In a press release yesterday, the investigation focused on PETRONAS’ award of a contract in 2021 to a Malaysian subsidiary of an international upstream company. PETRONAS fully cooperated with MACC throughout the investigation, which found no evidence of wrongdoing by PETRONAS, its employees, or directors under the MACC Act 2009.
PETRONAS reiterated its commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and stated that it would continue to enhance and strengthen its standard operating procedures (SOP) based on MACC’s recommendation. The company considers this a serious and ongoing effort to prevent and combat all forms of corruption and misconduct by its employees, directors, and third parties associated with the Group.
The investigation was initiated following the publication of a report on the matter by a portal. MACC opened an investigation paper into allegations involving PETRONAS and an international oil and gas company. The alleged project under scrutiny is valued at RM399 million in Sarawak.
