KUCHING: Petronas has confirmed today that a vent stack at BV106 (KP122) of its Sabah Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP) had caught fire at about 1am on May 8 in Lawas.
The group’s strategic communications media engagement unit, however, said that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure that the incident area was secure and safe.
“Our Emergency Response Team was immediately mobilised to control the situation and the fire was successfully put out at about 2.40am,” it said in a statement today.
No injuries were reported and all relevant authorities had been informed about it.
Actual cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained and an investigation is being carried out.
The statement added that Petronas would continue to engage with the local residents to provide them with updates on the current situation.
