BINTULU: Thirty youths from the surrounding areas of the Sabah-Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP) are set to participate in a month-long Scaffolding First Level Certification Training this year.

Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, said the programme is in collaboration with Institut Kemahiran MARA (IKM) Bintulu and Yayasan Sarawak, and will involve participants primarily from the Penan, Kayan, Iban and Kelabit communities in Baram and Ulu Limbang.

“The participants will undergo a comprehensive training programme by SRC Global Resources Sdn Bhd to enhance their technical skills thus allowing them greater career opportunities within the oil and gas industry.

“The training for first intake is ongoing which is from April 22 and will end on May 23 while the training for second intake will begin from Aug 20 to Sept 25,” Petronas said in a statement.

Petronas added that it will contribute a living allowance of RM200 for each participant and sponsor their travel expenses while Yayasan Sarawak will subsidise half of the training fee.

Petronas said that it dedicates to empowering local talents, particularly within indigenous communities from the SSGP area, through targeted training programmes based on communities’ needs.

“Our commitment extends beyond immediate skill-building, fostering lasting opportunities in our continuous efforts to uplift lives. With trainings designed for longevity, we aim to enhance the participants’ job prospects, paving the way for a brighter future.”
