Petronas to probe cause of fire at Bintulu’s LNG complex

BINTULU:  A fire broke out at the sea cooling water outfall channel, outside the plant process areas of Petronas Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) complex here at 6am yesterday (Feb 22) morning.

Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd, Public Affairs Department in a brief statement said the fire was successfully put out at 6.48am after the on-site Emergency Response Team (ERT) was immediately mobilised to control the situation.

“There were no injuries to any personnel or adverse effect to the nearby communities,” it said here today.

In addition, it said, all relevant authorities have been informed and investigations were currently ongoing to the root cause of the incident.

For the record the fire at the complex was the second of such incident when in July 2016 a fire occurred at one of the transformers  in Petronas LNG complex here but it did not affect production and there were no injuries.
