BINTULU: Petronas should consider setting up its quarantine centre for employees relocated here from abroad, says Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

The Bintulu MP said this was important to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 should the agents not adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) when bringing in workers.

“Before placing workers to work in Bintulu, agents must ensure they undergo tests three days before arrival and then apply for a police permit (for inter-district travel).

“I also hope the police will cooperate in this matter, including asking applicants to furnish their test results before issuing travel permits.”

Tiong said his proposal was not to make hiring complicated for Petronas, but out of necessity as the Bintulu health office had discovered that some patients from red zone districts had falsified their health history such as claiming that they had been in Bintulu all this while.

He said the false declaration had allowed them to bypass Covid-19 tests and go about the town while compromising the rest of the community.

Tiong stressed the need for oil and gas agencies to work together, and not put the lives of others at risk just to save costs. He also urged the police to pay attention to the issue.

He revealed that he received complaints about some quarantine hotels not carrying out proper sanitisation work.

Tiong urged hotel managements to supervise the sanitisation work on their premises as per guidelines, such as cleaning and disinfecting the rooms thoroughly.
