KUCHING: State-owned oil and gas company Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) will start supplying its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for the first time in Kuching and Samarahan divisions from next year.
Its chairman Tan Sri Hamid Bugo said the supply of domestic gas to homes, businesses and industries will cover other parts of Sarawak in the following year.
“Today, I am happy to announce the launch of Petros LPG. We are honouring this intent as a supplier for LPG into Sarawakian homes, businesses and industries.
“The supply of LPG will start in 2021 in Kuching and Samarahan, and extending state-wide in 2022,” he said in his opening address at the launching ceremony of Petros LPG at Kubah Ria, Petra Jaya today.
He said Petros aimed to provide at least one gas cylinder to each Sarawakian domestic household within four to five years.
“We will further support Sarawakians with a cleaner burning, more efficient and safe cooking fuel.
“More than ever, families are gathering over meals cooked at home. We are honoured to be part of every meal in every Sarawakian home,” he said.
Hamid added that Petros had supplied gas to over 25,000 households and over 1,500 commercial businesses and industries.
“Petros has provided reliable supply of essential gas to households as well as commercial businesses and industries in Bintulu and Miri which is served by our Gas Distribution Systems,” he said.
He called on all ministries, government agencies as well as their strategic partners to remain steadfast in the industry through close collaboration.
“In setting a firm foundation for Petros LPG to succeed in Sarawak, we hope to receive tremendous support and collaboration of several state ministries and agencies as well as our partners.”
