SARIKEI: The Chinese must be wise and know who to vote for during elections.
Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said yesterday that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government was not concerned with the wants and needs of the people.
He added that 95 percent of the Chinese in Malaya voted for PH during the recent parliamentary election but they ended up getting nothing.
“In its election manifesto, PH promised to recognise the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) but now, the issue is still unresolved by the Prime Minister. This has made the Chinese upset,” Ding said during the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Flag Rally at the Sarikei Civic Centre here yesterday.
He pointed out that there were many more promises to the Chinese which had not been fulfilled and that the Chinese in Sarawak were getting fed up already.
“If you continue to support the PH leadership, our welfare will not be taken care of,” he said.
Meanwhile, Repok state assemblyman Datuk Sri Huang Tiong Sii said Sarawak was lucky to have Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who was concerned for the state’s eroded rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“GPS is a Sarawak-based party which is fighting to gain more autonomy in oil and gas, education, and health.
“I urge all Sarawakians, especially the Chinese, to give their fullest support to GPS so that we can have a better future.”
Meanwhile, Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin said Sarawakians must thank Johari for making such brave moves to withdraw from the Barisan Nasional (BN) and form GPS.
“With our own entity, I can ensure you that under GPS, we will be able to fight for greater autonomy,” he added.
