KUCHING: The federal government through the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs will consider a proposal to provide fuel subsidies to 2,400cc-powered vehicle owners, especially in rural Sarawak who own four-wheel drive vehicles.
This was disclosed by Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Deputy Minister Chong Chieng Jen at his Chinese New Year open house at Chung Hua No. 3 here yesterday.
Not long ago, during his 2019 Budget presentation Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng had announced that fuel subsidies would be given to vehicles of 1,500cc and below.
Chong, however, said details of the subsidy scheme had yet to be finalised.
He said he was formed of the subsidy for owners of four-wheel drive vehicles in the rural areas in Sarawak by the Ministry of Finance.
He said the government was still studying the matter to ensure that it could accommodate the needs of the people.
“I mean we need to study how the subsidy is going to be channelled to the people…all these are still in the process of under consideration,” he added.
