KUCHING: The Malaysian Huffaz Association (PHM) is encouraged to collaborate with the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK) to further support the disabled community.

Its minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said among its responsibilities, her ministry is also responsible for the welfare of the disabled.

“With the cooperation, we will be able to reach out to more of the disabled. Moreover, the collaboration not only can be done in the field of religion but also in other fields as well,” she said.

She said this when attending the Ramadan Iftar Ceremony and the Handover of 1,000 translated Al-Quran books in various language such as Chinese, English, Iban, Melanau, National Rumi and Braille in conjunction with the Nuzul Al-Quran season at a hotel here last night (Mar 29).

Following this, she thanked PHM for their efforts in translating the Al-Quran and selecting Sarawak as the distribution hub for the converted and visually impaired.

“Translating the Al-Quran to various languages is not an easy task. Moreover, providing Al-Quran Braille to the blind will help them greatly to understand and read the Holy Book.

“Therefore, this contribution is very meaningful to them,” she said.

As the Braille Al-Quran costs over one thousand per book, Fatimah suggested that PMH distribute the Holy Books to the relevant associations so that it could be easily shared with the members.

“As the book is costly, I believe it is better that it is distributed to the community through their associations. With that, more people would be able to benefit from it,” she said.

For the record, the Tabung Haji Foundation has contributed RM10,000 for the printing of the Braille Al-Quran which were paid to PHM for them to distribute to the needy.

During the programme here, Fatimah had handed over 10 Braille Al-Quran to 10 visually impaired persons. Apart from that, the programme also saw 120 attendees here receiving ‘duit raya’.
