MIRI: The house of Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting in Tanjong Lobang was yesterday found to have been broken into while Ting and his family were not home.
Ting’s eldest son, Jeremy Ting, who went to the house about 8.30am and realised that the house had been broken into, called the police immediately.
The upper and ground floors of the double-storey house had been ransacked, and several things such as a camera, video recorder, and several electronic gadgets were stolen.
A team from the police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has checked on the crime scene.
Ting, who is also the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) secretary-general, said that he was not in as he was attending a party meeting.
“Fortunately, things happened when my third child was absent from home. If he had been in, he might have been harmed,” he said.
He added that his 29-year-old son was supposed to be alone at home, but he decided to stay overnight at his friend’s house.
Miri police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah, believed the suspects gained access from the back of the house.
“The iron grille on the kitchen window was cut, so we believe the thieves gained entry from there,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
No arrest has been made so far, and investigation is still on-going.
In 2015, the same house was broken into.
