KUCHING: The Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) of SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman here is of the opinion that the reopening of schools should be postponed until next year.

Its president, Ma’at Derahman said that schools should remain closed until the Covid-19 cases drop and the safety of both the teachers and students are guaranteed.

“Reopening schools in October is inappropriate as the rate of Covid-19 infection is still rising.

“The cases are becoming harder to predict now that the new Delta variant has emerged. Thus, I believe that it is safer for the students to study at home through the home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) method,” he said.

Ma’at suggested that all parties involved should come up with more interesting PdPR programmes in order to attract students participation.

“I hope that all parties involved will continue to educate the public about the dangers of the Covid-19 virus as well as adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs),” he said.
