KUCHING: A pillion rider died on the spot after she sustained serious head injuries while the rider sustained serious injury to his left leg.
Phira Brewin, 18, from Selangor was pronounced dead by medics at 6.50am yesterday at Beratok, Mile 21, Kuching-Serian Road.
The rider, known only as Dickson, 18, from Kampung Merang Baru, Mile 26, Kuching-Serian Road was ferrying Phira when he lost control of the motorcycle they were riding and rammed into an iron railing by the roadside.
The impact of the collision caused both of them to be flung a few metres away.
When passers-by saw the duo lying on the road they immediately called for an ambulance.
Phira’s body was taken to the mortuary of Sarawak General Hospital for a post-mortem while Dickson is getting treatment at the hospital.
The case is classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act, 1987 for reckless driving.
The motorcycle had been taken to Puspakom for testing.
