MIRI: A pillion rider was killed in a road accident after being hit by a car along Jalan Lopeng on Saturday night.

Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said initial investigations revealed that the 48-year-old victim had fallen off a motorcycle and entered the opposite lane before being struck by the car.

The victim, along with a 30 year-old motorcyclist, had been heading from the direction of the hospital towards Riam when the incident occurred around 7.50 pm.

The car, driven by a 41-year-old man, collided with the pillion rider.

Neither the rider nor the driver of the Civic were injured, and the motorcycle itself was undamaged.

Unfortunately, the pillion rider was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries.

The police are investigating under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and are urging eyewitnesses to contact the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at the Miri district police headquarters via 085-430479.
