MIRI: The pipe installation works undertaken by Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) within the Sungai Tangap-Pujut Link Road works package (WPC11) covering Sibuti parliamentary contituency, Bekenu, Lambir, Senadin and Samalaju state constituencies are facing some delays.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi said this was following the delay in the construction of Pan Borneo Highway works within that areas concerned.
“JBALB can only go in and begin with the installations (of the pipes) once the Pan Borneo contractor completes and hands over the site to us (JBALB),” Julaihi told the local media during his working site to one of project sites today.
These projects are the proposed pipe MLD 5 ML high ground tank and upgrading pumping system at Bukit Song booster station under (Sibuti /Lambir); proposed water main extension to Kampung Sungai Teniku (Sibuti/Senadin) and rural water supply phase 2 to Suai complex (Kemena /Samalaju/Bekenu).
“The installation of these projects is depending on the completion of the Pan Borneo (WPC 11) construction works,” he pointed out.
He added for the proposed pipe MLD 5 ML high ground tank and upgrading pumping system at Bukit Song booster station, a total 26km of the site project had been handed over to JBALB by Pan Borneo Unit, while the remaining 5km would be handed over in July this year.
Second and third projects would be in April and May respectively this year.
On another note, Julaihi has also reminded Pan Borneo contractors to be cautious while carrying out excavation works along the areas to avoid damaging the pipe laid underground which could cause inconvenience to the affected consumers at the surrounding areas.
“Please be extra cautious while carrying out the excavation works along the areas and do not hide when you hit the underground pipe, do immediately inform JBALB,” he said.
