KUCHING: Work to connect a new high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe stretching for 3.5 kilometres along Jalan Cinle in Kota Padawan near here is expected to be completed by the end of this coming May.

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang said the replacement work was necessary because the galvanised iron pipes were prone to corrosion.

“The pipes and installation cost about RM648,000. This project is an MPP project implemented by the Kuching Water Board.

“The project has started and it is expected to be completed by May 31,” the Batu Kitang assemblyman told reporters at the project site at Mile 10, Jalan Kuching-Serian on Monday (March 8).

Urging the residents in the surrounding area to wait patiently for the completion of the project, he said the new pipes will benefit 500 families.

“We regret the inconvenience caused during the implementation of the project. I am asking the public to give us their cooperation,” he said.
