BINTULU: Residents in the rural region of Sangan district will enjoy clean water in four years’ time once the piped water project which will begin early next year is completed in 2027.
The Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Bintulu conducted a study and assessment of the proposed project together with the relevant parties from March 7 to 9.
The project costing RM137.8 million includes the construction of a new water treatment plant, nine living quarters, raw water intake, water tanks and a booster pumping system.
It will benefit 72 longhouses or 2,200 households in the area as well as schools, namely SK Sangan Iban, SK Kuala Muput and SK Bagiau, and the Sangan Health Clinic as well.
“In Zone A, reticulated pipe alignment will be at the Tatau-Sangan junction towards the border of Sibu Division while pipes in Zone B will be from Jalan Tatau-Sangan.
“Zone C will have pipes aligned from Jalan Sangan to Rumah Junus and SK Bagiau while Zone D will have pipes at Pekan Sangan and areas across the river,” JBALB said in a statement today.
Part of Zone E will have the pipes fitted from Pekan Sangan to Rumah Unyang, Rumah Ngaying, Rumah Jampi and Rumah Tedong.
Agencies such as Tatau District Office, Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, Ministry of Economy Malaysia, Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunications Sarawak, JBALB HQ, Public Works Department (PWD) Bintulu, Department of Lands and Surveys and Sarawak Rivers Authority Bintulu were involved in the three-day study and discussion.
Meanwhile, a signing ceremony of the report on the value assessment study for the project between JBALB Bintulu and Tatau District Office, Ministry of Rural and Regional Development and Ministry of Economy was held at a local hotel.
