KUCHING: Muslims nationwide are celebrating a different Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year, but that does not mean it is any less meaningful.
Pizza Hut Malaysia encourages Malaysians to embrace this blessed festivity by celebrating the end of Ramadan and maintaining silaturrahim (strengthening of relationships) in this unprecedented time.
“Hari Raya is a season of forgiveness, family and love — and for many Muslims, this year’s Raya looks set to be a bittersweet experience, as our usual traditional gestures during Raya festivities have to be curbed during this trying time.
“The act of salam (greeting) is more than just an important gesture amongst Muslims — it’s a way to say hello to people we cherish in our lives, a way to ask for forgiveness and a way to renew and strengthen our relationships. Truly, the act of salam brings great meaning to Muslims, and is deeply ingrained in our Malaysian culture.
“While the usual traditional way of salam is discouraged during this pandemic, we can still show our love and appreciation to one another in many other ways — as the act of Salam is an important gesture, we can still salam, or at least kirim salam (sending regards) right now, with pizza. And that is the cornerstone of our communications for this Raya,” said Pizza Hut Malaysia chief marketing officer Emily Chong in a press statement today.
In line with the ‘Sampaikan Salam Syawal’ campaign, Pizza Hut is amplifying the salam gesture by creating the longest salam video called ‘Salam Rayaku 2020 Terpanjang’ featuring celebrities namely Shaheizy Sam, Fattah Amin and many other social influencers.
Submissions will then be recorded in a way that looks like they are continuously engaging in the act of salam with each other. This continuous salam, though virtual, is meant to convey the true meaning of salam, that is to strengthen our silaturrahim and bond with one another.
With that in mind, we invite all Pizza Hut fans to join in the fun by uploading videos of themselves participating in the Raya handshake on Instagram Stories or Facebook and hashtag it with #SalamRayaku.
