KUCHING: PKR is cracking and heading for a major breakup.
Political analyst Datuk Peter Minos said it is just a matter of time that the party will shatter.
“Like a mirror, PKR is now cracking and it is impossible to patch up because the damage is beyond repair.
“PKR president Anwar (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) actually puts up a brave face in Miri by saying that PKR is still solid and united and by boasting of victory in Sarawak election in 2021 or earlier,” said Minos to the New Sarawak Tribune.
According to Minos, the crack in PKR started in earnest when some top leaders put up a candidate against Datuk Seri Azmin Ali for the PKR deputy president post.
After that, he said, party appointments made by the PKR president was staked heavily against Azmin, and then there was a sex video that was made with oblique intentions to implicate Azmin.
“All pointed to one thing…some top people in PKR seek and want Azmin down and out of PKR for reasons of their own.
“Maybe jealousy of popular Azmin or misguided dislike of the man but Azmin is no fool.
“He is a seasoned political veteran, was a successful mentri besar of Selangor and a good political street fighter.
“He knows that he must survive and I am very doubtful he can now see any survival avenue in PKR. So, he is making moves that we are witnessing and quite aware of,” said Minos.
e said He said this explains why Azmin openly supports Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for prime minister till 2023 and why he shows interest in his old friends in a revived Umno, and why he is not attending PKR party meetings, as if he is seeking or provoking to be sacked.
“His interests in and for PKR is perhaps zero now. So, to say that PKR is not cracking and is still united is hypocritical.
“PKR is cracking and heading for a big breakup. It is just a matter of time,” said Minos.
On the PKR convention in Miri, Minos said it showed that top PKR leaders in Kuala Lumpur simply bulldozed things in Sarawak, as elsewhere.
“There was no respect for PKR Sarawak leadership. There was no democracy, much less autonomy for PKR Sarawak.
“It was a PKR Kuala Lumpur show and Anwar show. PKR Sarawak members who complied did so for fear of their Kuala Lumpur masters and or for lack of choice or currying favour with Anwar,” said Minos.
Thus, he said PKR top leadership in Kuala Lumpur can kiss goodbye to PKR Sarawak members, the majority of whom are openly with Azmin.
Minos said Anwar boasting about winning Sarawak in 2021 and talking of party unity and democracy is purely wishful thinking and an empty political rhetoric.
